Our community Thicket Portage is located on the Hudson Bay Railway line, now operated by Omni Trax, between Landing Lake to the south and Wintering Lake to the north. The community is about 48 km south of Thompson and about 256 km from the Pas.

Home to 170 residents the community has winter road access 3 or 4 months of the year and a nearby Manitoba government air strip, the travel is mainly by Via Rail train to city of Thompson and usually a 2 and 1/2 hour ride depending if the train is on time.

The community was originally known as Franklin Portage after the Franklin expedition. It is one of the portages in the route used to connect the Nelson River system with Wintering Lake. The history of Thicket Portage is rich in heritage and local culture with the community being used by settlers to travel through northern Canada.

Thicket Portage is home to incredible wildlife, fishing and scenic landscapes, the community is located between 2 lakes Landing and Wintering lake, Fish like pickeral and Jackfish, whitefish, perch, sauger are in the lakes.
